Our hard-driving, always-too-much-to-do-culture does not, I think, appreciate the importance of stillness and quiet.
We are hyper-connected via crackberries and iEverythings. That 5 day work week expands to 7 when you can check email remotely.
No wonder stress is high, blood pressure is elevated, diets are sabotaged by grabbing fast food because the only time to eat is in the car on the way to practice/rehearsal after work.
We need to stop. We need to unplug.
More importantly we need to give ourselves the permission to stop and unplug.
Feel like you need to go grocery shopping? Have cereal for dinner.
Laundry must be done? Probably won’t hurt to wait another day – or another couple of hours.
Email must be checked? Not unless someone is going to die if it doesn’t.
We’ve created false expectations and demands of ourselves centered on life in the fast lane.
And I’m as guilty of living in that mindset as the next person.
That is NOT God’s best for us. What does He tell us?
“Be still. And know that I am God.”
“Come to me all you who are heavy burdened, and find rest for your soul.”
Listen to Him.
Slow down.
Be still.
Love yourself enough to just … stop and rest.
